My project..

At the age of 43 I finally acted on a desire that had been around since I was very young: to do a "project car."  That is, I wanted to take a car and make it my own by improving it with work done myself.  Growing up in Detroit in the '60's and '70's it had to be a car that was part of Detroit's muscle car heritage.  The improvements I had in mind were to add power to the engine, not to change the looks.

The project starts, April 2002

The picture page reflects the arrival of my project car, a 1973 Ford Gran Torino Sport.  I chose this car because the body is perfect and the interior is very good.  The quality of those components will allow me to focus on the engine.  The body style was #3 on my list of favorites.  #1 is the '66-'67 Fairlane hardtop, and #2 is the '68-'69 Mercury Cyclone.  The fishmouth grill of the '72 Torino is better looking than my '73 fat-lip bumper, but I like this one, too.

Changes in direction, 2003

The Torino arrived with a disassembled 351W that I originally intended to rebuild and install.  Money shortages chaned my plans.  I purchased a badly rusted 1971 Lincoln Mark III.  It ran strong, so I pulled the engine and transmission and I began cleaning and repainting them for installation "as is" in the Torino
